A global mindset that instils a creative outlook of life and sharpens cultural sensitivities is a vital asset for participants of the Limkokwing Global Campus programme. It adds value to a graduate’s resume as participants are provided with special certificates that prove invaluable in job interviews.
The value of global exposure and cross-cultural understanding cannot be overstated in an increasingly interconnected world. The recently concluded Limkokwing Global Campus Programme at the university’s Cyberjaya campus marked a significant milestone for students from Limkokwing University Cambodia and Brunei’s Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS).
The two-week programme provided an enriching experience, blending practical industry exposure with cultural immersion. This immersive on-campus programme aims to prepare students for both overseas study and career advancement by exposing them to the latest global trends and practices, while building strong cross-cultural relationships.
“It was an eye-opening experience,” said Azwan Fikri bin Haji Omar Ali, a student from KIGS, Brunei, pursuing a Bachelor of Software Engineering with Multimedia. “I learned so much from people of different backgrounds.”
He was particularly intrigued by the different educational systems and how technology was integrated into their daily lives. He was also inspired by a workshop challenge to create a strategy-based card game where players needed to solve challenges using limited resources, focusing on creativity and quick thinking. Most definitely it is a project he hopes to develop further in the future. “The most valuable lesson to me is when you see a chance, you take it,” Azwan explained, absorbing the spirit of creativity and innovation that Limkokwing aims to foster.
For Nuon Richard, an architecture student from Limkokwing University Cambodia, the Global Campus Programme was a journey into the unknown—an opportunity to experience something new.
He made many new friends sharing experiences. “We talked, we hung out, we asked each other questions, and we learned about each other.” He found that the most valuable insight gained was the importance of communication. Richard emphasised that the programme taught him that communication is essential not just for learning but also for building strong relationships—a critical skill for his future career as an architect, where effective communication with clients, contractors, and team members is crucial for the success of any project.
The Global Campus programme has proven that it is not only beneficial for students but also highlighted the importance of international collaboration in higher education.
Norhafilah Amin, a lecturer as well as KIGS Head of Corporate Communication, viewed this collaboration with Limkokwing University as a critical step in preparing students for a globalised future.
She said, the programme allowed students to understand global trends and issues, especially the impact of digital transformation on various industries and the growing importance of sustainability in business practices. She added that this encouraged them to apply their newfound knowledge once they return to Brunei. She is convinced that the programme builds students’ confidence, independence, and ability to communicate effectively—skills that are essential in today’s interconnected world.
The Limkokwing Global Campus Programme not only provides valuable industry exposure but also helped students from Cambodia, Brunei, and Malaysia forge new relationships.
It brought together participants from different cultural backgrounds, creating an environment that encouraged collaboration and mutual learning. Notable activities included a workshop on digital entrepreneurship, where students learned how to create and pitch business ideas, and an industry talk from a leading creative director, which inspired participants to think outside the box in their respective fields. Whether through workshops on innovation, industry talks, or cultural visits, the students experienced a unique blend of academic and real-world learning that expanded their worldview.
As Norhafilah advised future students, “This programme benefits you; it builds your inner self in terms of being independent, confident with your work, how to communicate with people around you, and build relationships.”
Her words echo the core values of the Global Campus Programme: nurturing innovation, building global networks, and fostering personal growth. “Take the leap, explore beyond your comfort zone, and embrace the opportunities that come your way,” she added, encouraging students to make the most of this transformative experience.
For those who are curious about exploring beyond the borders of their own countries, the Limkokwing Global Campus Programme offers a transformative experience—one that not only enhances their academic journey but also prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly interconnected world.
