Three students from the Faculty of Creativity in Tourism & Hospitality and the Faculty of Design Innovation flew the University’s flag high by shining above the rest in the Millennium Challenge Account Lesotho Compact II: “Leboela la Seepa-Mere” – naming competition.

Limkokwing University provides a platform and opportunities for students to practice what they learn in the classroom through real life experiences for them to graduate with skills that seamlessly transition them into the professional world.

The University engaged 3 students in a competition set by the Government of Lesotho through the Lesotho Millennium Development Agency (LMDA) under sponsorship of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) which required 3 top universities in Lesotho (Botho University, The National University of Lesotho and Limkokwing University) to engage their students with coming up with a name for the MCC Compact II.

Kananelo Makosholo, Rethabile Poea and Tsebo Makakole under the Faculty of Creativity in Tourism & Hospitality and the Faculty of Design Innovation respectively scooped first place by coming up with the name “Leboela la Seepa-Mere.”

Explained in an eye-opening discussion, Ms. Kananelo Makoshole stated that the freedom of self-expression in the Limkokwing style of learning evoked the team to think out of the box.

She further explained that the team did not only come up with the name but further went to an extent of designing the logo and motion graphics of the concept. It is in this regard that Mr. Rethabile Poea depicted that this tenacity is what set them apart from the rest of other institutions who only came up with a name in the process.

Mr. Tsebo Makakole explained that the name “Leboela la Seepa-Mere” was derived from “Leboela” which is interpreted as “coming back” or “returning” particularly as the Millennium Challenge Account has returned to Lesotho and this time to fund health, horticulture and upcoming business. He further showed that “Seepa- Mere” is related to all the three concepts of the compact II as it emphasises the importance of growth, development and progress.

In the context of health, Mr. Makakole elaborated that “Seepa- Mere” can be used to describe the process of improving ones health and wellbeing. In horticulture, it can refer to growth and development of crops and gardens while in business it can describe the process of starting and growing a business.

”Leboela la Seepa Mere” will go a long way in promoting economic growth, job creation and better health for Basotho.
