Respond to Typhoon Haiyan

Super Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms in recorded history, smashed into the Philippines on the morning of 8 November 2013, local time. It left total devastation in some areas and according to the United Nations, 9.8 million people have been affected by the typhoon.

It is this year’s most powerful tropical storm and also the latest natural disaster to strike a country that is still recovering from monsoon flooding and a massive earthquake in recent months.

Storm surges as high as 16 feet have swept away small villages and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. There are reports that at least 10,000 have died in the eastern Philippine city of Tacloban.

Philippine Red Cross

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has deployed assessment, rescue and relief teams to evaluate the damage and to support rescue efforts in the areas devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.

ShelterBox

ShelterBox was already in the Philippines providing shelter for those affected by the Bohol earthquake in October. They are now expanding their operations to provide tents and essential equipment for families left homeless by Typhoon Haiyan.

World Vision

World Vision is providing food, non-food items, hygiene kits, emergency shelter, and protection, especially for children and women, in its largest relief operation to date. They will also work to create child-friendly spaces and help families rebuild from this disaster.
