Lee Kim An, an alumna of Limkokwing University with a major in Interior Architecture, recently made waves as the winner of the nationwide mascot design competition for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2023, hosted by Cambodia. The conclusion of the SEA Games marked the culmination of an incredible journey for Lee Kim An, whose mascot design became an iconic symbol of the event.

Reflecting on the momentous occasion, Lee Kim An expressed her overwhelming gratitude and joy at the opportunity to represent Cambodia at such a prestigious event. “I was speechless the moment I knew that I had won,” she shared. “For me, it wasn’t just about winning the competition, but it is something I always wanted to do. I am so proud to have achieved my lifelong dream, which is to represent my country. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do something that would make history, especially for an event as big as the SEA Games.”

Her winning mascot design, featuring two rabbits named Borey and Romdoul, resonated with athletes, officials, and spectators alike. The inspiration behind the design was carefully crafted to embody the spirit of the SEA Games. Lee Kim An drew upon the agility and speed of rabbits to symbolise the qualities necessary for successful athletes. The traditional Cambodian martial art costume, known as “Bokator,” worn by the mascots further emphasised the cultural heritage of Cambodia and the importance of sportsmanship within the nation.

Lee Kim An’s success in the mascot design competition has significantly impacted her career. Her recognition and validation as the official mascot designer for the SEA Games have boosted her confidence and opened doors to new opportunities within the design industry. It has allowed her to connect with professionals, organisations, and potential clients previously out of reach, positioning her as a prominent figure in the field.

Following the remarkable accomplishment of having her mascot design showcased at the SEA Games 2023, her next significant goal in life is to embark on the entrepreneurial journey and establish her own business.  She envisions a design-focused store that offers a wide range of creative products and services, fostering a vibrant creative community and forging meaningful partnerships. “This next big goal represents not only a new chapter in my professional journey but also a chance to make a lasting impact in the design industry while realising my entrepreneurial aspirations,” she said.
